What does the COVID-19 virus mean for our upcoming season?

Here at Salt City Roller Derby we value the health and safety of our community. As it has always been, the safety and security of our fans, league members, and opponents remains our highest priority. In these uncertain times we wanted to talk about what this may possibly mean for our team and our upcoming 2020 season.

As of today, our home bout at Onondaga Community College (OCC) on March 28th has been cancelled due to the closure of OCC for the time being. We feel like it is the most responsible choice after speaking with local and state public health officials and was decided with the safety of our team members and regional community in mind. Keep in mind that information changes sometimes hourly and as of now, although we have not announced the cancellation of our other bouts being held at Onondaga Nation Arena (ONA), it may be inevitable. We have not made any decisions about cancellations yet, but when we do it will be based on actions taken by our venue partners, decisions made by teams we are playing this season, our international league organization Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) as well as our state and local health department guidance. We continue to monitor the current situation with the coronavirus and COVID-19 with our venue partners and the local governments where they are located and post information about our bouts as it becomes available to us. At this time all pre-sale ticket sales have been suspended. If a bout you have purchased tickets to is indeed cancelled we will be issuing a full refund.

We ask that you help as a community by following the protocols as outlined by the CDC of regularly washing hands for at least 20 seconds, covering your cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  Most importantly, if you are sick or even suspicious of being ill, please stay home. Do not over buy items and only purchase what is needed. most importantly, be kind to each other, remember a virus is no reason to be racist, xenophobic, or discriminatory in any way shape or form.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
